for Benton County, Washington

 Pro Tips for Couples

✔️ Apply early! You’ll need to wait 3 days before your ceremony.
✔️ Double-check your IDs before heading to the Auditor’s Office.
✔️ Be sure you secure your witnesses! You’ll need two people age
12+ present at your ceremony. Don’t worry—Simply Now provides
a complimentary witness if needed.
✔️ Don’t forget your license on your wedding day! We can’t legally
marry you without it.
✅Who can apply?
  • Must be 18 or older (17 with notarized parental consent and possible judicial approval)

  • No residency requirement — you can apply from anywhere

📄What you’ll need
  • Both applicants must appear in person at the Benton County Auditor's Office: 5600 W Canal Drive, Kennewick, WA

  • Bring valid government-issued photo ID with birthdate

  • One applicant may be absent with a notarized absentee affidavit (contact Auditor in advance)

💰Fees & Payment
  • Fee: $50–$68 (subject to change)

  • Cash only — personal checks not accepted

⏳Waiting Period & Validity
  • 3-day mandatory waiting period after applying (cannot be waived)

  • License is valid for 60 days from issue date

📝Ceremony & Witnesses
  • Ceremony must occur in Washington State

  • Officiated by ordained clergy, judge, or authorized officiant (not self-solemnized)

  • Requires two witnesses age 12+

📁After the Ceremony
  • Officiant files license with the county

  • Certified copies:

  • In person: ~$3–$15

  • By mail/online: ~$25 and 1–2 weeks processing
